Two of Britain’s finest BRYAN FERRY and JOAN ARMATRADING joined forces to tour Australia in November 2008.
The mercurial Ferry and the sublime Armatrading are class acts through and through. They performed with crack bands and delivered a catalogue of brilliant songs that have stood the test of time. To see both artists on one night was an unforgettable musical feast!
As well as being the front man of the wildly innovative modern art-rock band Roxy Music, Brian Ferry has also spent the last 30-plus years establishing himself as a great songwriter (‘Love Is The Drug’, ‘More Than This’, ‘Slave To Love’ etc) and distinctively modern singer. Through it all Ferry has been celebrated for delivering with a substantial dose of glamour, sophistication, wit and street-cred – qualities that made these live shows so very special.
Joan Armatrading has been nominated for Brit and Grammy Awards, been a recipient of the prestigious Ivor Novello Award, an MBE from the Queen, has played for Nelson Mandela and recently received a Doctorate In Music from the University of Birmingham. Known as a true craftsman, her consummate musicianship has encompassed soul right through to blues and sophisticated pop, and is always driven by her passionate guitar. With tracks like ‘Drop The Pilot’, ‘Show Some Emotion’, and ‘Love And Affection’, ‘I Love It When You Call Me Names’, and ‘Me Myself I’, she delivered a very special evening.
Daryl Braithwaite kicked off the concerts in fine style. With a distinguished career spanning 35 years and a voice that soars with inspiration, soul and warmth, Daryl was a firm favourite with the crowds. His fabulous set included multiplatinum hits from Howzat from his Sherbet days, to solo successes ‘As The Days Go By’, ‘The Horses’, ‘One Summer’ and ‘Rise’ to name a few.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see two of England’s musical legends with one of Australia’s finest, all on the same night in a wonderful evening of quality music.
